Making Your Home a Haven Challenge Week 2

My peppermint swirl candle has been flickering on the stove.
Love love love the pepperminty aroma!
I've been praying as often as I remember for peace.
Have you been following Courtney?
I am looking back at week two.

This week’s challenge:
Play soft music everyday in your home. Choose worship, classical or another form of peaceful music that the family enjoys. I’ll be playing Christmas music! Focus on using peaceful words and maintaining peaceful relationships. Work on gentleness this week.

Well this first part is pretty easy!
We have been playing Christmas music the past week!
Sis pulls up youtube on the wii and has a Christmas playlist that we have been using almost all day, every day!
I love Christmas music, even singing about snow is fun (regardless of how I feel about real snow, fake snow in songs just goes with the season!).
The second part however.....
It's SO SO SO difficult to use peaceful words when you live with a constant tormenter!
Sarcasm, Defiance, Nit picking, Arguing, Insults, etc.
It's constant. Its annoying. Its a real DOWNER.
How do you stay happy, cheerful and loving in light of this?
Like Courtney says,
I need to work on
*Guarding my tongue
*Overlooking Insults
*Using tongue to bring Healing
*Guarding my Mouth
*Being Slow to Anger
*Giving Gentle Answers
*Using Restraint

Wow. That is a tall order it seems!

The Simple Woman's DayBook

For Today

Outside my window...It is dark, cold and windy.
Had snow last night.

I am thinking...Of how cold I am.

I am thankful for Bug.

In the kitchen...My candle is glowing.
All the lights are off, dishes have been done, closed for the night.

I am wearing...Blue fleece sweatshirt, over a black t-shirt, blue windpants, tennis shoes and wrapped in a comforter.

I am creating...a list of possible Christmas gifts to make.

I am going...To try and make more gifts this year from the heart.

I am wondering...Why some "friends" change into people you don't even know? How does that happen?

I am Reading...
Village Life in America
Mine is the Night
By the Shores of Silver Lake - school
In His Steps - school
The Robe - school
The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple - school
Indian In the Cupboard - Lit with bug

I am hoping...That our finances improve.
Good Ole Boy hasn't been working much lately.

I am looking forward to...Bed.
Einstein had us up until after midnight last night and I had to get up at 5:15 this morning so starting to drag here.

I am learning...More about goats.
For instance, I learned about Star Gazing.
It's like cribbing in a horse.
Who knew?!
Guess what?
Chip does this.
I always thought he was stretching,
or looking at branches just out of reach.
Nope.

Around the house...Its pretty quiet.
Still fighting with Hunny on bedtime but all the rest are in bed and Good Ole Boy is watching the A-Team on Netflix.

I am pondering...Thanksgiving and Hunny's birthday.

A favorite quote for the day...

One of my favorite things...Taking pictures.

A few plans for the rest of the week...School, Parent Group for Einstein, Field trip, Dinner with Friends, Church.

A peek into my day...

Making Your Home a Haven 2012 Challenge

Running behind schedule as usual, I am just now getting to look at this challenge.
What does that tell you?
 This *IS* a CHALLENGE!

Once again, I will be joining Courtney over at Women Living Well for this fall challenge.

Here's the challenge for week 1 ~
Go buy an extra large candle and light a candle everyday in your home. I will be starting mine in the morning! But you can start yours at dinner time. Do what makes sense for your family. I will be placing mine in the kitchen – the main hub of my home. Each time the candle catches your eye, say a prayer for peace in your home.

Peace.
Our home is often anything but peaceful.
There is often so much tension.
But when I look upon a flickering candle...
It's so pretty.
So relaxing.
It is peaceful.

So today I dug out a candle and lit it.
The delicious scent of peppermint has been wafting through the house all day.
Now to be working on praying for peace.

Voyager News - October Edition

  ~ ~ ~ SET SAIL FOR A LIFETIME OF LEARNING ~ ~ ~

October. A crazy month!

Weaver Vol 5, Ch 12
Passover.
Days 16 - 20 (finished).

Bible lessons have been in Matthew and then review.
The review was great as this chapter has lasted SO long!

Social Studies continued learning about the war up to 1916.
We discussed weapons of war and how drastically warfare has changed from the Civil War with the new inventions in weaponry and technology. We learned of President Wilsons Peace Plan, and about many innovations and inventions during this time period.

~ READ ALOUDS ~
By the Shores Of Silver Lake Ch. 1 - 4
In His Steps Ch. 14 - 18
The Robe Pgs. 113 - 152

We haven't gotten much of our other sciences done this month, some minor things and review time mostly.

In Art we have worked with the mediums of Pastel Chalk and Black Markers.

PE has been soccer, running, bike riding and wii fit/sports.

Lit with Bug has been continuing Indian in the Cupboard and we have read Ch 11 and 12 this month.
For Sis, we have only done lesson 51, but she has read a bit more of Jane Eyre and has been working on lots of writing assignments.
Hunny is still not extremely structured but has been reading very well.

Home Ec was lots of baking for a Civil War event, cookies and making Cinnamon Crusties.
We have also been really busy crafting, knitting and sewing, and doing deep cleaning, reorganizing and decorating.

In Calligraphy we have worked on Ch 4 and 5.

We also participated in a Civil War Muster which was three days of Living History, Drama, Nature Study, and PE.

We had a Homestead Work Day and completely cleaned the shed, packed up summer outdoors things, cleaned the chicken coop, packed both the coop and goat shed with straw, cut down some trees, etc.

19 School Days this month.

The Simple Woman's DayBook

For Today

Outside my window...It is a crisp, cold morning. Everything is brown, there are leaves scattered all around.
By the door is this wreath Bug made.

I am thinking...About this election.
We will be deciding the fate of our country today, that is a big responsibility. I pray that as a nation, we choose God honoring leaders and laws.

I am thankful...For the men who have sacrificed to give us the freedom to vote for our leaders.

In the kitchen...Coffee.

I am wearing...Black fuzzy plaid shirt, Blue jeans, tennis shoes, Shawl and Prince Aiden is laying on me.

I am creating...Quite the list of things to make.

I am going...To vote!

I am Wondering...How come all three dogs have ear infections?

I am reading...
Village Life in America...
Mine is the Night
By the Shores of Silver Lake - School
In His Steps - School
The Robe - School
Indian in the Cupboard - Lit with Bug

I am hoping...Sis feels better soon!

I am looking forward to...Learning about goats this weekend.

I am learning...More of the same.

Around the house...Pretty much all of the Halloween things have been packed up and taken back downstairs. Working on the Thanksgiving decorations. Having a lazier morning and girls are still in pjs and hidden among piles of blankets and pets.

I am pondering...The future of our Nation.

A favorite quote for the day...

One of my favorite things...The smell of a campfire.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Cleaning/Decorating, Doctoring, School, Group for Einstein, and 4-H Goat Training.

A peek into my day...
My baby girl not feeling well.
The Dr said there was anti-swelling medication in the IV and not to expect much until Wednesday night/Thursday....I sure hope she doesn't swell more!
She also has bruising along her cheeks and is in a lot of pain.
It makes me so sad to see my kids hurt.

Voyager News - September Edition

~ ~ ~ SET SAIL FOR A LIFETIME OF LEARNING ~ ~ ~

Our first month was pretty different.
We spent our first day just having an overview and then walking to the millpond for a photo shoot.
Then we also had our homeschool groups kickoff event.

Again, we started school in the middle of a chapter.

Weaver, Vol. 5, Ch 11

Again, we do Weaver three days a week.
This month we have done days 8 - 15.

Our Bible lessons have been from Matthew and we have been discussing the few days right before the crucifixion.

In Social Studies we have been learning about life after 1865 up to WWI.
We have talked about inventions and got to sample some fun ones, like malted milk balls and chewing gum.
We have learned about the Allies, Central Powers and discussed President Wilson.

~ Read Alouds ~
On the Banks Of Plum Creek Ch. 32 - Finish
In His Steps Ch. 6 - 13

The other subjects (which are alot!) -
 Bug has General Science.
We have finished module 1.
Both girls have Chemistry and we did a lot of review.

We participated in a Civil War Muster, which was four days of Nature study, physical ed, living history, and drama.

Sis's beau, Warrior Poet is involved in a Barbershop group. He took us out for a day of culture.
It was GREAT!

We have also had many Dr appointments and quite a few court dates that have interfered with school.

Home Sweet School 2012

Wow. I can't believe another school year is here!
I can't believe school has been in session for a month!
WOW!
Time sure flies!

My homeschool voyagers of 2012-2013

Sis is 15 and a Junior.

Bug is 12 and in 7th Grade.

Hunny is 7 and in Second Grade.

We are planning an amazing year together!

Einstein age 16 and a Sophomore.
Although he started the year in our public school,
we've been dealing with some pretty extreme behaviors and he is currently attending a court ordered day treatment program so his schooling in done there. We hope that he will be able to finish the program and return to his regular school yet this year.

Did you take first day pictures?
The girls and I had a GREAT time on our photo shoot!
Something we need to do more often.
