Book Review - The Quarryman's Bride

Land of Shining Water, Book #2
Tracie Peterson

Emmalyne and Tavin were weeks away from their wedding when tragedy strikes and her father calls it off. Tradition says the youngest daughter will not marry but remain with her parents to care for them in their old age. Emmalyne makes the heart breaking decision to obey her father rather than follow her heart. Eleven years later, they return and so does Tavin...

This story is more than just a romance. Topics of honoring parents and Biblical obedience, grief and mental illness are all discussed. I love how Emmalyne looks to scripture for guidance and comfort. Her life with her father has been so difficult, however, she still strives to honor God by honoring and loving him. I found this to be a thought provoking story and frequently found myself wondering how I would have responded to the situation. Another wonderful read by Tracie Peterson.

While this is book #2 in the Land of Shining Water series, it is a stand alone book.

Book Review - The Icecutter's Daughter

Land of Shining Water, Book #1
Tracie Peterson

The Icecuter's Daughter is a wonderful book, although I love Tracie Peterson so it wasn't a huge surprise that I would enjoy this one as well, but I was surprised that I finished it in a weekend.

Merrill was raised by her father and brothers after her mother past away. She was more than a bit of a tomboy, helping with horses and out on the ice. Then she meets Rurik. Rurik who faces a huge scandal.

I could relate to Merrill in many ways and was intrigued by what was unfolding with Rurik. A wonderful blend of romance and history all while keeping God in the center.

The Simple Woman's DayBook

For Today

Outside my window....The ground is sprinkled with snow.
It is cold but sunny.

I am thinking... How much I have to do for Gettysburg!

I am thankful...For all the blessings God has chosen to bestow upon me.

In the kitchen...Sis is finishing up dinner dishes.

I am wearing...PJ pants, Black t-shirt hoodie, Robe, Wristers and Slippers.

I am creating...A list of needed CW items to sew.

I am going...To try and exercise more often.

I am wondering...How to get it all done.

I am reading...
In His Steps - school
The Robe - school
The Return of the Indian - Bug lit
A Diary From Dixie by Mary Chestnut

I am hoping... To become a better mom.

I am looking forward to...Spring and warm weather.

I am learning...That our founding fathers had some great quotes!

Around the house...The tree is down but still have Christmas decorations up. Feeling very unmotivated in taking things down this year.

I am pondering...If Einstein will ever heal.

A favorite quote for today...
"Make sure you are doing what God wants you to do - then do it with all your strength."
George Washington

One of my favorite things...My kids

A few plans for the rest of the week...School, Work, Court, 4-H meeting.

A peek into my day...
