The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... It's early and cooler.
There is a gentle breeze rustling the maple leaves out front.

I am thinking... Bug needs to hurry up in the shower so I can hop in!

I am thankful... For Bug, who has such a sweet generous heart.

From the learning rooms... Did some school yesterday.
Still trying to wrap up our chapter in Weaver which is taking awhile with our crazy summer!
Yesterday we talked about photosynthesis.

In the kitchen... Coffee is ready.
Some dishes still in the sink that Sis didn't finish last night.
Paperwork on the counter that I *NEED* to get filled out TODAY!
Thinking about what to make for dinner....?

I am wearing... p.j's.

I am creating... Chips harness.
I have the heart girth strap done (except for punching the buckle holes),
the breast strap and have attached the two pieces together.

I am going... To bathe dogs soon,
but it seems like every afternoon I have time....
it rains! :(
(I try not to scrub them in the tub anymore,
since Black Pearle put a nail THROUGH the bottom -
and our tub was new since we've moved here.)

I am wondering... WHY OH WHY is Hunny suddenly SO loud and SO hyper?!

I am reading... Mystic Sweet Communion
Form the mixed up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler - school

I am hoping... That God provides Good Ole Boy with a better job.

I am looking forward to... Bedtime.

I am hearing... The whirr of the computer,
Hunny playing.

Around the house... I've weeded the gardens and (all but one) flowerbeds,
Good Ole Boy has mowed and weed whipped,
Einstein and Bug have scooped out the goat pen.
The house needs some straightening,
and of course, further purging and organization.

I am pondering... RAD, and why nothing ever works.
How can I continue doing this for the next 4 years?!

One of my favorite things... Hearing my kids sing church and camp songs.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Bug has allergy testing, Einstein sees Dr.,
Leather class, Hunny sees Dr.,
Work, Volunteering at the Ranch, Riding lessons, Church.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Summer Photo Challenge - Gardens

I wish I had a gardener.

I love pretty flower gardens
and bountiful vegetable gardens.

I, however, do NOT have a green thumb!

I have a hard time remembering
what is what,
to weed,
water,
harvest,
for that matter,
KNOWING when to harvest.
But I try.

This house doesn't have much room for a veggie garden.
So I have just a small area.

Maybe someday I'll learn more,
retain more,
plant more.

For now,
at least it's a start.

 My favorite lily.
Our pansies are a foot tall!
Yay for bunny poo! lol.
 Beans, Squash & Peppers.
Squash, possible Potato(? surprise plant), Peppers & Cabbage.
Cucumber, Peas, Turnips, Rutabaga, Lettuce & Cabbage.
Tomato, Squash, Pumpkins & Strawberries.

Yes, things are pretty squished.
But that's how we attempt to deal with such a small space.
This is Bug's "grass garden".
It started when we first moved here.
The other kids were getting space for a 4H project and not to be left out, Bug asked for some too! :)
She wanted to see how tall grass would get if left unmowed.
We gave her this space.
It's next to the garden but unusable as the washer drain field is right here so we can't till or anything.
It's just stuck.
Kids will play all sorts of things in the tall grass,
and we always have grass available to pull for bunnies.
Oh, the goats love it too!
Peony.
Does anyone know what these are?
They grow along one side of the house
(not in a garden just wild and randomly).

How's your garden?

Make sure you check out
for the Summer Photo Challenge!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... It's been a really odd day.
Hot, humid & sunny....then dark and thundershowers.
It's currently bright and 72'.

I am thinking... about a friends missing friend.
How awful.
Find LeNette for more info.

I am thankful...To fall into bed each night, knowing my family is safe.

From the learning rooms... Break week....
VBS all week long from 8 - 12 (actually starts at 9 but Sis and I are working in the nursery for workers babies starting at 8)
Girl Scout Day Camp until Thursday from 1-8 p.m.
Einstein at the Ranch.

In the kitchen... Dinner just finished - steak, tater tot hasbrowns, eggs and strawberries.
Einstein working on dishes he didn't finish last night.

I am wearing... Black capris, red Central Christian College of the Bible t-shirt, hair up in a clip.

I am creating... A goat harness.
Now won't that be fun?!
Picked up the webbing material so will be starting tomorrow or Friday...

I am going...To get busy packing lunches for tomorrow, check laundry, get through the shower and then repack girls' bags.

I am wondering... WHAT is UP with the WEATHER?!

I am reading... Mystic Sweet Communion by Jane Kirkpatrick

I am hoping... That God provides Good Ole Boy with a better job.

I am looking forward to... Relaxing...

I am hearing... A car show that is on Netflix.

Around the house...Pretty quiet.
Garden is planted, but still alot of things I want to do both outside and in.

I am pondering... Honestly, today my thoughts are just what needs done so I can go to sleep!

One of my favorite things... A baby snuggled up against my neck.

A few plans for the rest of the week: VBS, Daycamp, work, church.

Something I've Learned

One of the most important lessons I've learned is,

"STOP and Smell the Roses"...

Or the dandelions for that matter! :)

We live in such a fast paced world.

Even in our life,

Hurry up we need to go.
Don't dawdle now.
C'mon!

It's so EASY to rush.

I often have to remind myself to

STOP,
SLOW DOWN,
LOOK,
LISTEN,
FEEL,
WONDER,
IMAGINE,
DREAM....

And don't forget your camera!

Some of the most precious shots I've captured
have been when we were simply
smelling the roses.

Track

Sis ran track this year.

I'd never been to a track meet before.

It was a great experience for her and she did really well.
She really enjoyed the field events! :)

Summer Photo Challenge Intro

As ya'll know, I like blog challenges. :)

(And as ya might have figured out,
I often run late in my posts because,
... well....
this ISN'T my job....
my family is my job.
They come first and always will.
So while I INTENDED to post this the 10th...
it didn't happen.
Now that that is done....)

I found this challenge when doing my blog reading.
From Creative2xmom's blog -
"Each week there will be an assignment to photograph an item or activity that means summer.
You can journal with your entry or not.
It's up to you.
The point is to take the pictures, play with them, get behind that camera and capture what makes your family unique.
Before you know it, you'll be looking at your summer in a whole new way."

June 10th--Your favorite Summer Accessory
June 17th--Show us your Garden
June 24th--What's in Your Fruit Basket?
July 1st--Show us some Outdoor play
July 8th (my hubby's birthday)--What's Your Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?  Or Summer Drink?
July 15th--What's on Your Front Door?
July 22nd--What's in Your Summer Bag? Where are You Going?
July 29th--Photograph that Summer Sky.
Aug 5th--What Color Means Summer to You?
Aug 12th--Photograph Something Wet.

Now doesn't this sound fun?

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... It's a beautiful evening.
Today was really nice, very comfortable and lower humidity.
Currently there is a gentle breeze teasing the leaves and it's 70'.

I am thinking... How nice it will be to crawl into bed EARLY tonight!
We have been SO crazy busy lately and it's taking it's toll on everyone.
I'm sending the kids to bed shortly and hope to be in bed in an hour! (GASP!)

I am thankful for...Beautiful weather!

From the learning rooms...Einstein is out of school.
We're not yet done with our chapter but will finish as we can.

From the kitchen... Einstein is doing dishes.
Tonight's dinner was tacos.
EVERYONE loves tacos!

I am wearing... Black shorts and a pink butterfly t.

I am creating...

I am going... To go beseerk.
There has been ALOT of difficulty already...

I am reading...Your Defiant Teen
Beloved Enemy - almost finished!
The Wedding Dress - lit with Sis
From the mixed up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler - school

I am hoping... That God provides Good Ole Boy with a better job.
He was finally given a week day off yesterday and actually had a call back from one place.
Maybe?

I am hearing... Good Ole Boy sleeping on the couch,
kitties running the Feline 500,
and Einstein grumbling.

Around the house... Two girls are now in their rooms.
I have MOST of the garden planted!
Yay!
Only a few acorn squash and pumpkins left and I plan on getting them in tomorrow. :)
Lots of tidying needs to be done.

One of my favorite things... Snuggling with my girls.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Take kids to Ranch, 4H Shooting Sports, Work, School, Make up Softball game, Ranch activity, Church and preparing for next week - it's INSANE!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... It is hot.
It's 72' and 8 a.m. - it's going to be a humid day!
But the sun is shinning and the birds are chirping, thankful for another day.

I am thinking... I need Sis to trim my hair.

I am thankful for... Summertime.
As much as I dislike the humidity, I dislike the cold and snow even more!
I am thankful summer has arrived and we can enjoy the beauty outside.

From the learning rooms... Weaver Vol. 5, Chapter 8 - Parables of Jesus
We've had lots of interruptions lately, but we are plugging along trying to finish this chapter, hopefully within the next week...

From the kitchen... Coffee.
Like I *need* an excuse - I need coffee grounds for my garden so must make coffee daily! lol :)
Haven't decided what's for dinner yet, last night we took the easy route and had hot dogs and fries.
I really like the Oscar Myer premium dogs.
Taste good and much better than regular hot dogs.

I am wearing... P.j's

I am creating... Working in the garden.
Got it about half weeded out - and looks like I have a potato growing from last year!
Discovered we are going to have an ant problem this year! :(
Should have known - we'd scrubbed out some bunny cages awhile back and left them out to dry - when I went out to get the tray there was a MOUND under the tray, ugh.
So yesterday I was working and moved the railroad tie and wowzer! BIG ant nest. Ick!
Covered that spot with coffee grounds, hope it works.
Need to finish weeding, get it tilled up and planted this week.
(wish me luck!)

I am going... To enjoy a cool shower this morning!
Then get ready for a busy day.

I am reading... Your Defiant Teen - maybe I should just take it off my list?
Beloved Enemy
The Wedding Dress - Lit with Sis
From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler - school reading

I am hoping... That God provides a better job for Good Ole Boy.

I am hearing... Little House on the Prairie, Season 3.
Hunny wanted to watch the episode where Carrie falls in the mine shaft first thing this morning.

Around the house... Girls are all up now.
Pretty quiet though, even the critters are calm.

One of my favorite things... Lilacs

A few plans for the rest of the week: Taking Sis to drop off a few resumes, Karate, Softball, School, Ranch, 4H Shooting Sports, Sis's birthday, Church.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Dinosaurs!

I am not INTO dinosaurs.

Period.

That said, I DO thing they are fascinating and I DO like to take my kids to go see them. :)

I DO believe that they were real.

I DO believe that God created them.

I do NOT believe it was millions of years ago!

I am thankful we don't have to dodge man-eating dinosaurs in our daily living. :)

The girls and I joined some homeschool friends back in April and traveled to a nearby museum to see the latest dino exhibit.
Aside from all the "millions of years ago" balogna,
it was really nice.

Hunny LOVES watching The Land Before Time,
so she really enjoyed this and related them to various characters from the story.

Hunny & Bug really enjoyed playing at the fossil table, where there were various things mixed in with some rocks they could dig through and magnifying glasses to check them out closer.

Sis and her friends LOVED the big 'sandbox' where you could 'dig' for dino bones.
O.k, o.k., so she wasn't looking for dinosaurs but rather burying a friend but still....

Someday I really want to make the trip to the Creation Museum.
It would be great to get information from a Creation view.
Until then, I am thankful that we can at least SEE dino's up close like this visit.
