FOR TODAY

Outside my window...It's a so-so day. It was very foggy this morning and while that has cleared up, its kinda blah. It has warmed up though and feels pretty nice out there.

I am thinking...How to reach out to others.

I am thankful...For friends who love us.

In the kitchen...We made Cinnamon Crusties for Home ec so now the kitchen is messy with dishes in the sink! Have a pretty candle burning on the stove and chicken thawing.

I am wearing...White Halloween Sweatshirt, Blue Jeans and tennis shoes.

I am creating...A dog hoodie. At least, I am hoping to create one! I have most of the pattern cut out of paper - just need to finish that and then start with fabric.

I am going...To get the chicken coop cleaned out soon!

I am wondering...Why I am SO tired?!

I am reading...Village Life in America 1852 -1872.....

Mine is the Night
By the Shores of Silver Lake - School
In His Steps - School
The Robe - School
Indian in the Cupboard - Lit with Bug

I am hoping...Unemployment arrives this week! Good Ole Boy hasn't had hardly any work this past month and while we haven't brought much money in for some reason the bills keep coming. Sigh.

I am looking forward to...Gettysburg

I am learning...Knitting, Sewing and more about the 1800's.

Around the house...Sis is on the phone - waiting on her to do calligraphy. Good Ole Boy is sleeping in the recliner and Hunny put something on Netflix. Laundry is going and all the dogs are curled up sleeping.

I am pondering...What I can do to help our family?

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things...4H workshops!

The Simple Woman's DayBook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Its dark, windy and chilly.

I am thinking...
That summer really is over....I know it shouldn't be a surprise but its just so....depressing!

I am thankful...
For the Colonels wife for making me a wool cape for this weekend.

In the kitchen...
Good Ole Boy made pasties for dinner (yum!) and Einstein is doing dishes. We also have 100 lbs of potatoes sitting by the pantry.

I am wearing...
Long sleeve tan shirt (got yucky lettuce juice on the tan corduroy button up I was wearing over it), blue jeans, socks, tennis shoes, wristers, a blanket and my new cape. Yep, my toes and fingers are numb and I am STILL cold!

I am creating...
Lists to get done for this weekend.

I am going...
Camping! In October! In a tent! What am I thinking?!

I am wondering...
How to stay warm.

I am reading...
Jane Eyre - should be finished, just got a few chapters left
Mine is the Night (yeah, I forgot where I put this one....it was in my CW trunk)
By the Shores of Silver Lake - School
In His Steps - School
Indian in the Cupboard - Lit with Bug
Village Life in America 1852 - 1872 Including the period of the American Civil War as told in the diary of a school girl by Caroline Cowles Richards

I am hoping...
That we have beautiful weather this weekend.

I am looking forward to...
Spring?

I am learning
... About drying potatoes.

Around the house...
Deep cleaning and fall decorating. Bug has made me some really pretty autumn wreathes - so far one for the back porch and one for the chicken coop. I need to get pictures of them tomorrow.

I am pondering...
How long before Einstein realizes his behavior is serious and needs changing?

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things...
Pasties. They are just really yummy.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Baking, packing, School, Sewing, Reading and the Civil War Muster.

Voyager News - September Edition

~ ~ ~ SET SAIL FOR A LIFETIME OF LEARNING ~ ~ ~

Our first month was pretty different.
We spent our first day just having an overview and then walking to the millpond for a photo shoot.
Then we also had our homeschool groups kickoff event.

Again, we started school in the middle of a chapter.

Weaver, Vol. 5, Ch 11
Passover.
Again, we do Weaver three days a week.
This month we have done days 8 - 15.

Our Bible lessons have been from Matthew and we have been discussing the few days right before the crucifixion.

In Social Studies we have been learning about life after 1865 up to WWI.
We have talked about inventions and got to sample some fun ones, like malted milk balls and chewing gum.
We have learned about the Allies, Central Powers and discussed President Wilson.

~ Read Alouds ~
On the Banks Of Plum Creek Ch. 32 - Finish
In His Steps Ch. 6 - 13

The other subjects (which are alot!) -
 Bug has General Science.
We have finished module 1.
Both girls have Chemistry and we did a lot of review.
Calligraphy we have done Ch. 1 - 5 (some was review).
Art we have worked with Charcoal and Pastels.
Latin we spent some time reviewing.
Sis is learning Sign Language and has been working on Ch. 1
PE has been walking, running, riding bikes, playing on the wii and soccer.
Lit with Bug. Currently we are reading Indian In the Cupboard, and have read up through Ch. 10.
Lit with Sis, we reviewed Frost and then have worked on lessons 48 - 50.
Lit with Hunny hasn't been to structured yet.
Psychology with Sis. Ch 1 - 3.
Home Ec we have done lots of baking for Civil War Events like bread, banana bread, zucchini bread, cookies, tea cakes, scones, etc. and then we learned how to make oven fried chicken.
Geography has been tied in quite a bit with Weaver and then we've played some State/capital BINGO.

We participated in a Civil War Muster, which was four days of Nature study, physical ed, living history, and drama.

Sis's beau, Warrior Poet is involved in a Barbershop group. He took us out for a day of culture.
It was GREAT!

We have also had many Dr appointments and quite a few court dates that have interfered with school.

17 School Days this month.

Home Sweet School 2012

Wow. I can't believe another school year is here!
I can't believe school has been in session for a month!
WOW!
Time sure flies!

My homeschool voyagers of 2012-2013

Sis is 15 and a Junior.

Bug is 12 and in 7th Grade.

Hunny is 7 and in Second Grade.

We are planning an amazing year together!

Einstein age 16 and a Sophomore.
Although he started the year in our public school,
we've been dealing with some pretty extreme behaviors and he is currently attending a court ordered day treatment program so his schooling in done there. We hope that he will be able to finish the program and return to his regular school yet this year.

Did you take first day pictures?
The girls and I had a GREAT time on our photo shoot!
Something we need to do more often.
