As I sit here thinking about this final summer photo challenge, I'm thinking - 

It definitely doesn't feel like summer anymore!

So sad that it's over, but here's some wet water memories.

Photo Challenge - Summer Color

I LOVE the colors of summer.

The brilliant blue sky with big, fat, puffy, bright white clouds...

The glorious blaze of the sunset...

The dazzling turquoise of the water glinting with the sun...

The gorgeous John Deere Fields...

 John Deere Fields?

Yes, the deep, inviting green grass covered with the sunny yellow dandelions.

I didn't use to feel this way.

But then I had kids.

My kids LOVE dandelions.

I remember when they were little,

we were driving, and they pointed out a yard.

"Mom, isn't that just beautiful?! 

Look at ALL those dandelions!"

lol.

It touched me in that special way that only a childs words can.

Since then, I think of the John Deere Fields.

Green and yellow.

The colors of Summer.

They ARE beautiful.

And they remind me of how fleeting childhood is,

and the need to enjoy the little things.

I didn't have a decent picture of a John Deere Field, 

you'll have to pretend this is full of yellow dandelions!

I had planned on taking beautiful sky pictures out at the lake.

Only it hasn't happened.

Good Ole Boy has had to work.

The weather has been too cold.
Blah.

So, I'm borrowing pictures from LAST summer.

I love these pics of the sunset over the lake.

Photo Challenge - Summer Bag

This is my usual bag.

Meaning, it is usually the one I grab.

Of course it has lighthouses on it so I love it. :)

And it's packed, and I do mean PACKED with most everything I could possibly need on an outing.

And yes, it IS currently messy and unorganized.

There are coloring books and paper.

Markers.

Foam 'puzzles' and models.

Hunny's DS and all her games.

Food like granola bars and fruit snacks.

Insurance cards.

Ink pens.

Magazines.

Cough Drops.

Little toys - animals and such.

Extra batteries.

It's usually ready to grab,

throw in my calendar and camera and out the door we go!

And it's great because there IS room if I need to add more stuff.

How awesome is that?

Photo Challenge - Your Front Door

What's on my front door?

Nothing.

The doors we have aren't really something you could put a nail into.

Or something you'd want to anyways.

So except for Christmas when I have an over the door hanger for my wreath, the door is empty. 

Mostly.

Occasionally I find a drawing taped there from one of the kids.

In fact, on the screen door (it's only screen on the top half) there is currently Bug's future "tattoo" design (lol) of the Cross with the robe hanging over it.

Because of this challenge though,

I enlisted Good Ole Boys straight eye and stronger, steadier arm to install hooks 

to hang this lighthouse that I've had 

....since moving here five years ago.....

where it's just been resting in the kitchen.....

waiting.......

What's your favorite ice cream flavor or summer drink?

I had a time debating this one.

I'm trying to drink more water.

But that's kinda boring to post! lol.

Then I thought about ice cream, 

but I'm trying to avoid that too! 

So, I finally just decided to be honest.

(even though I'm trying not to indulge often!)

Summer Photo Challenge - Fruit Basket

We've been trying to eat alot of fruit.

Of course I'm TRYING to get my family healthier!

Plus the ranch has a great challenge going on right now, 

where the kids have charts with 82 boxes. 

Someone has challenged the ranch families to fill these sheets,

and will PAY $1 a box ($82 per sheet),

NO LIMIT!

Wow, what a blessing for the ranch! 

So we are going through alot of fruit! :)

We've been enjoying watermelon and strawberries this past month,

in addition to our regular stand bys of apples and bananas.

Here is what is currently on hand 

A bunch of bananas, and then some berries for a cake.

Summer Photo Challenge - Gardens

I wish I had a gardener.

I love pretty flower gardens

and bountiful vegetable gardens.

 I, however, do NOT have a green thumb! 

I have a hard time remembering 

what is what,

to weed, 

water,

harvest,

for that matter, 

KNOWING when to harvest.

But I try.

This house doesn't have much room for a veggie garden.

So I have just a small area.

Maybe someday I'll learn more,

retain more,

plant more.

For now, 

at least it's a start.

 My favorite lily.

Our pansies are a foot tall! 
Yay for bunny poo! lol.

 Beans, Squash & Peppers.

Squash, possible Potato(? surprise plant), Peppers & Cabbage.

Cucumber, Peas, Turnips, Rutabaga, Lettuce & Cabbage.

Tomato, Squash, Pumpkins & Strawberries.

Yes, things are pretty squished.

But that's how we attempt to deal with such a small space.

This is Bug's "grass garden". 

It started when we first moved here.

The other kids were getting space for a 4H project and not to be left out, Bug asked for some too! :) 

She wanted to see how tall grass would get if left unmowed.

We gave her this space.

It's next to the garden but unusable as the washer drain field is right here so we can't till or anything.

It's just stuck.

Kids will play all sorts of things in the tall grass,

and we always have grass available to pull for bunnies.

Oh, the goats love it too! 

Peony.

Does anyone know what these are?

They grow along one side of the house

(not in a garden just wild and randomly).

I often run late in my posts because,

... well.... 

this ISN'T my job....

my family is my job.

They come first and always will.

So while I INTENDED to post this the 10th...

it didn't happen. 

Now that that is done....)

I found this challenge when doing my blog reading.
